Kosha Fabric Properties

Kosha fabric is made from bamboo which has natural antibacterial qualities. Even after bamboo is made into a fabric and washed, its anti-bacterial quality is not destroyed. The coating is also antibacterial, so while your mat would typically retain odor and bacteria, this is a problem you will never have with a Kosha. Kosha also has the following exclusive certifications:

Kosha is a product started for solely this standard.  We made our product able to be thrown in the washer and dryer with sheets, towels, and clothing.

Kosha fabric has already been washed over 1,000 times prior to purchase to ensure that there durability, functionality, and aesthetics remain intact and to our high standards. This property of Kosha products is more time-efficient and helpful to a user's practice.

When doing yoga we sweat. Most products on the market absorb sweat, dampening the product and making the user left lying on top of their own secretion and bacteria picked up from the studio. Kosha products don't just absorb sweat, they trap the sweat into a layer that is beneath the bamboo fabric, but does not soak through onto the yoga mat. Kosha mats prevent the user from laying or standing on top of a soaked product. This property ensures your mat will never retain odor or bacteria again. A Kosha cover for a yoga mat is perfect for hot yoga.

When deciding on what fabric to use for a Kosha we knew it had to have one specific quality: the fabric had to be an earth-friendly product. In our decision we also knew that we wanted to work with a company that used technologies that were not harmful to the environment.

Kosha fabric is a bamboo polyester blend.   Besides being a natural resource, we also choose to use our trademarked fabric for the following reasons:
1. Kosha fabric   is highly water-absorbent taking in 3-4 times more moisture than cotton.
2. Kosha fabric is a natural fiber, meaning it has been grown without the use of pesticides and herbicides.
3. Kosha fabric is very lightweight and strong.
4. Both the bottom fabric and coating are highly specialized and free of toxic chemicals.

The factory we use is one of the only factories to use solvent recovery stems complete with onsite waste water recycling. The factory is OEKO-TEX, BLUESIGN TEXTILE, and ISO12000 certified.

  • The Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 is a globally uniform testing and certification system for textile raw materials, intermediate, and end products at all stages of production.

  • Bluesign Textile  is an on-site evaluation of the environment, resource, and workplace situation of textile manufacturing sites adhering to the five bluesign standard principles: resource productivity, consumer safety, air emission, water emission, and occupational health and safety.

  • ISO12000 is the International Standards for Business, Government and Society. ISO 12000 is an international certification for environmental quality.

Even when placing a towel or other product on top of your mat during practice, bunching and slippage still occurs, making it difficult to hold poses.  The unique design of a Kosha prevents fabric from bunching; causing no slippage
